It has been a while in coming but today I released the first Beta version of Calendar Press, a plugin to add a very powerful event calendar to your Wordpress site. Though this is a limited version at this time, the back end is fully functional and allows a user to add and manage both events and categories. After you install this plugin you should create a page where your calendar will display, then select that page on the Calender Press settings page.
The front end is currently limited to a calendar style display and limited event information. Future versions will add an RSVP system, Google Maps, short codes and widgets. If you have any other features you would like to see in this plugin, please suggest them in the announcement thread on our support forum.
Development on this and other plugins will continue slowly as this is the last week I have of no employment – I start back to work on Monday, January 18th. I still plan to complete the plugin and enhance it over the coming weeks, but would really like your suggestions as to what features you would like to see come up first. You can post a comment here or use the support forum.
Enjoy!

I would love to see the capability to sync the calendar with a google calendar. For example, I manage a school pta website – it would be nice to maintain the dates in google calendar (so folks can sync with google calendar at home or on mobile) and have them automatically import into my website calendar.
Thank you for the suggestion. I do plan to integrate with Google Calendar and also with other types of calendars as time permits.
This plugin looks to be going in the direction that I have been desiring of an event program.
Some features I’d like are:
Ability of users to add events in the front end
Event listings by location (i.e. 50 miles of zip code)
Event listings by type
The system has the ability for users to add events on the back end and at this time I do not plan to include functionality for the front end. You can give users access to the add and modify forms in the settings page. A front end form may be added in a later version, but it is not a priority at this time.
Listings by location and type and even searching will be added as time permits.
